Friends of the Parkersburg & Wood County Public Library

Do you really love your library? Would you like to see the Parkersburg-Wood County Library be the best it can be? Then maybe you should look into joining the Friends of the Library. We are looking for new members who want to help us improve the local library and promote literacy in the area.

The Friends currently have two books sales a year, one in the fall and one in the spring. The proceeds from the book sales provide financial support to the Parkersburg & Wood County Public Library by helping to sponsor the Young Readers' Summer Program, buying new materials, furniture, and computer equipment, and supporting the WV Library Association and the Literacy Volunteers of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

For more information on the Friends of the Library please see the By-Laws (attached), check out our Friends of the Parkersburg-Wood County Library Facebook page, email us at, or contact the library at 420-4587.

If you would like to become a member of the Friends, please visit the library and fill out a registration form. Annual membership dues are $2 per person and $5 for a family.

The Friends will be holding a special fall bargain book sale Saturday, September 26 from 9:00 - 4:00 in the foyer and auditorium of the Emerson Avenue location (lower level, accessed from the front of the building). All hardbacks will be 50 cents and all paperbacks will be 25 cents. There will be no special Friends' hours for this one-day bargain sale and no special bag price towards the end of the day. This sale will replace the usual October sale this year and is being held because the library needs our sorting/storage area to prepare for the transition of materials to the new South Branch opening soon. If you can help with setup on either or both of the Fridays before the sales or volunteer the days of the sale, please contact us through our email address:

The next Friends meeting has been rescheduled to Tuesday, October 20 at 7:00PM. We reset the date to accommodate as many Executive Board members as possible. We are trying one more evening meeting to see the response, and then will probably go back to 1:00 meetings during the colder months if there is no major objection. Please mark your calendars to attend the meeting 10/20 and help us figure out the direction our group should head after the book sales are out of the way for the time being.
